Editorial Note

With Productivity being positioned as the desired outcome, Innovation should form the catalyst.  Being innovative is not always second nature, and for some it means being exposed to new methods, being forced to innovate for sheer survival or to beat the competition, or else learning from industry heavyweights who have managed a breakthrough in productivity gain through innovation. In May, the Chamber moved quickly into this mode by launching an Innovation and Productivity Mission to Taiwan, unfurling an opportunity to learn from Taiwanese business counterparts at close quarters. Similarly, speakers at the 12th SMEs Conference, academics and practitioners alike, pitched their perspectives on innovation, eagerly sharing nuggets of wisdom mined from their personal work lives. Hopefully, this would help to fashion a mindset change, so integral to the national agenda of driving up productivity.
